Menopausal Acne

Let me jump right into it. I’ve been experiencing, as my mom and aunties would call, “the change” aka menopause for the last three years.

Gradually my body had changed. Irritability, hot flashes, difficulty falling asleep, weight gain/difficulty losing weight, and my skin becoming dryer were symptoms that one by one invited themselves without an invitation.

Having a hysterectomy in my early thirties, with only my uterus being removed, made it difficult for me to gauge exactly when “the change” was going to hit me.

As a healthcare provider, I knew that acne could occur because of hormonal changes. However, I didn’t think it was going to happen to me! I mean, come on! I had enough going on with Ms. Menopause.

I noticed a blemish here and there. And again…gradually blemishes started popping up on my cheeks, forehead, and jawline. I didn’t have this much acne as a teen.

Before heading off to a dermatologist, I tried The Ordinary salicylic acid 2% masque twice a week. After being consistent with applying the mask twice a week for a month and now weekly, I haven’t had a breakout since. And with exfoliating the hyperpigmentation is gradually fading away.

If you’re having this issue, give this product a try. Remember to follow the instructions on the packaging for the best results.

Before you go. Hope over to TikTok to check out my video on Menopausal Acne.

Until next time,

Suzette
