Welcome back to Love Letters! It’s time we caught up with Karen and Dom to see what they’re up to. Unfortunately, these two have hit a bump in the road. Keep reading to see what’s going on.
“Thanks for nothing, Cupid.”
Disappointed, Karen set the alarm and turned off the lights before heading up the stairs. Moving past the children’s empty bedrooms, disappointment trade places with frustration.
Planning for weeks, everything was in place for a much needed romantic evening with her husband, Dom. Reservations had been made for seven-thirty at Ocean Prime. A couple’s massage was scheduled for tomorrow afternoon at Heaven Spa. She had contemplated they’d be too tired from their lovemaking to leave the house before noon. The children were scooted off to the grandparents earlier in the evening.
She and Dom’s relationship had been a bit stressed with him working late hours, and hardly spending any time with her and the children. If Karen wasn’t secure in her marriage, she’d question if he was cheating.
Most evenings, by the time he stumbled in exhausted, the two younger children were fed, bathed, and in bed by seven-thirty. And the older two were done with their homework, off in their rooms watching t.v. before bedtime. Some nights he was too tired to make love. Ever the understanding wife, she never nagged. Although deep inside she was resentful of his long hours.
It wasn’t that she was unappreciative of her hardworking man. Because of his work ethics, they lived a comfortable lifestyle. And most importantly, it afforded her the luxury of being a stay at home mom, which he insisted on.
Flopping down on the king size bed, Karen bent over to remove black stilettos from her freshly pedicured feet. She wore them because Dom said they made her legs look “sexy as hell.”
She smiled remembering the last time she had them on. It was after Dom’s birthday dinner, and the last of their guests had left. The couple kissed, their hands all over each other as they stumbled, a bit tipsy, up the stairs. Too impatient to remove their clothing, Dom tore Karen’s lace panties off of her, as her hands fumbled at unbuckling his belt.
A bit lightheaded, she giggled, “I can’t get this thing off.”
Gently pushing her hands aside, Dom hissed an expletive. “Girl, you better stop playing with me.
Before Karen could blink, she was up against the wall, her legs wrapped around his waist with Dom buried deep inside of her.
Karen shivered at the memory. “Too bad that ain’t happening,” she sulked.
Standing, she padded barefoot over to the walk-in closet. Tears misted her eyes as she placed the shoes on the shelf.
Frustrated with Dom’s workaholic nature, she finally had enough and snapped at him when he didn’t come home early as promised.
“All you care about is work! What about me and your children! Do we even rate on your priority list of things to do!”
“Enough, Karen!” he bellowed on the other end of the phone. “You’re acting like I’m running the streets! I work hard for you and our children!”
“What’s that supposed to mean!”
If they had been FaceTiming, he would’ve seen her hand go straight to her curvy hip.
She could tell his teeth were clenched when he growled, “You like your shopping sprees with your sisters and having the children in private school, don’t you?”
Shocked, Karen pulled the device away from her ear, staring at it for the longest time.
No, he didn’t just say those things to her. Pissed, she ignored him as he was calling her name on the other end. Lips pressed together, she placed the phone back up to her ear.
“Go to hell, Dom!”
Recalling the angry exchange, she leaned against the door and bawled like a baby.
Dom’s head fell back against the leather headrest, as he sat in his vehicle in front of the brownstone where he lived with his family. His eyes darted to the digital clock on the dashboard. It read eight-forty-five.
Karen had turned off the downstairs lights fifteen minutes ago as he was pulling up to the house.
He hissed an expletive, his fist banging the steering wheel. That morning, before kissing his wife goodbye, Dom promised he would be home no later than six-thirty. Involved with negotiations over a new contract for Peretti and Peretti Construction, he’d lost track of time. He hadn’t realized it was after seven until Karen called his cell phone.
His heart plummeted to his stomach when one of the guys, after the meeting, began gathering his reports. Looking at his watch, he joked, “I better get to the mall so I can get my girlfriend a Valentine’s Day gift. Or else I’m in the doghouse.”
“Damn, I forgot,” Dom hissed.
The other guy chuckled. “Man, I feel sorry for you.”
Dom banged the steering wheel again. He felt like his back was up against the wall. With his father fully retired, he was now responsible for the construction company. With other companies competing for contracts, he had to be on top of his game. Unfortunately, that meant spending long hours at the office.
Grabbing his briefcase from the passenger seat, he exited the vehicle. He had to find a way to blend his two worlds. His wife was unhappy with him. And if he didn’t watch it, his kids would grow up without him even noticing.
As he stepped inside, he disarmed the alarm before arming it again. Throwing his briefcase and overcoat on the sofa, he headed for the stairs. The carpet runner muffled his footsteps as he made his way down the hall, passing the children’s bedrooms, which were empty.
Damn, I messed up.
Taking the stairway to the third floor, leading to the master suite, he could hear Karen’s sobbing before he reached the top.
He really felt like a jackass at the sight of her on the walk-in closet floor in a black cocktail dress with her knees pulled up to her chest. It didn’t help that he noticed she had laid a suit out on the bed with a shirt, underwear and socks for him to put on after taking a shower.
Karen wanted to be angry with him, but was relieved when she heard his heavy footsteps enter the bedroom. During their marriage, she had never hung up on him in anger. Even though her feelings were hurt, he hadn’t followed through on his promise and obviously forgot it was Valentine’s Day, she hadn’t felt good about her actions.
Not saying a word, Dom stooped down and gathered his wife in his arms. Karen’s arms automatically went around his neck as he carried her to the bed and sat with her in his lap.
Tenderly kissing her lips, he apologized. “Baby, I’m sorry for the things I said and making you cry.”
“And I’m sorry for hanging up on you.”
Dom squeezed her before kissing her forehead. “I’m sorry for not keeping my promise and forgetting it’s Valentine’s Day.”
“It’s okay,” she whispered, just glad to be in her man’s arms.
“No, it’s not okay. I’ve been neglecting you and the children lately. “
Karen extricated herself from Dom’s hold. Facing him, she straddled his lap. Her soft hands cupped his face. Bringing her lips mere centimeters from his, she murmured, “What are you going to do about it?”
The desire for his wife was evident in the thick bulge in his pants. Damn her. He couldn’t think with her seductively pressing her pelvis against his. Hell if he knew what he was going to do about it. What he did know is that he wanted her…right now.
He laid back on the bed, bringing her with him, not caring that his suit was going to be a wrinkled mess.
Karen rested an elbow on his sturdy shoulder, to gaze down into the handsome face of the love of her life. An arched brow raised and smirk on her lips, she sassed, “Well…”
Her womanly core tingled from the rich, deep chuckle floating through his sexy lips.
“I’ll do my best to make it home by dinner or at least before the kids are down for the night.”
Now it was his turn to lift a thick brow. “And what?”
She playfully slapped his chest. “Don’t fall asleep without giving me some nookie!”
Dom barked out in laughter as he pulled her to his broad chest in a bear hug before kissing her long and deep.
Karen wrapped her arms around his neck, allowing herself to be overtaken by Dom’s possession of not only her mouth, but her entire being.
Breaking the kiss, his lips began to nibble on her ear. “Take off this dress.”
“My pleasure,” she murmured.
Sliding down his body, she disappeared into the closet.
Dom growled an expletive as Karen returned wearing nothing but the black stilettos.
She smiled coyly at her everything. “You like?”
“Come over here and find out.”
Karen sighed in ecstasy as Dom completely filled her. It turned out to be a not so blue Valentine’s Day after all.
